Hot Water Cylinder:
A lagging jacket on the hot water cylinder will keep water hotter for longer and pay for itself within a few months.
For a given area of wall or window, a window will allow up to eight times more heat to escape. So keep your curtains closed at night.
As much as one quarter of the heat lost from a house can be lost through the walls. Properly insulating walls can reduce this by two-thirds.
Badly fitting windows and external doors can account for more than one-sixth of heat loss. Check the seals in your doors and windows also.
Close room doors to separate heated from unheated areas of your home, and minimise the area you are heating. There is no need to spend money heating rooms nobody is in.
Turn off the heating overnight and when you are out during the day.
Turn off the heating if you are going to be out of the house for more than a day.
Lowering your thermostat by just 1ºC will knock 10% off your heating bill.
